Iam converting our 55 Courier to dual exhaust. It has a 272 with 3 speed overdrive. There appears to be very little room on the drivers side with all the shift linkage. Do the cars with manual ******s take the same manifolds as automatic ****** cars.

We are currently pulling the motor to change a few oil leaks. When we put the motor back in Iam hoping to have the manifold thing figured out. Thanks.......Mark

I think the manifolds are same for the '55s & '56s. I've seen '55s with duals and don't recollect anyone saying they had to make any mods for them to fit. If you were closer to me (Michigan), I have a couple sets of dual exhaust manifolds you could borrow one to test fit. Or if you know anyone closer maybe you can borrow theirs?

I'm putting a set of NOS Belond headers on mine, they are definitely different from the pickup headers in that they hug the engine in order to fit the car's engine compartment.

Below is an earlier pic of left side of my engine compartment with the dual manifold mounted. I think '55 and '56 engine compartments are same dimensions. Engine is a 292 (same outside size as your 272):
