Greetings, last September I found and purchased my 1955 Dodge pickup. My goal is to mount the body on a modern frame thus updating powertrain. I am thinking of a Dodge Dakota 4X4 with a 318 and 5 speed automatic. I would welcome any suggestions.

Welcome, Personally I agree with the Dakota swap use a early dakota to keep 5x4.5 bolt pattern, but that being said this Forum does frown upon 4x4s and newer frame swaps so I wouldn't go around posting anything 4x4 related or the mods will delete the post. It is very easy to swap in a updated drive train without a frame swap, I have a 360/727 on the original frame in my 57 Dodge pickup. But pertaining to the 55 itself there is lots of info and helpful hands onboard you might want to post some pictures over in the 48-60 Dodge truck thread. We love to see new trucks (to the forum ;) not as in brand new) so head over here> http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=752370 and look around lots of info on these trucks floating around. again welcome and enjoy!
