Looking to possibly have my ranch wagon hinges rebuilt, but I would prefer to buy another set from a yard to have those rebuilt. That way I can keep my doors on and use my car while the others are being rebuilt.

What's a good price on a set of factory take off hinges from a yard?

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure about your '55 hinges, but my '57 hinges were easily rebuilt from the "HELP" parts at an auto Zone/O'Reilly's. Hinge pins and bushings= easy peasy. Hope your '55 hinges are the same way.

Thanks Rich! Unfortunately, the 55’s are different from the 57’s and there are no bushings or pins.

Interesting. I was under the impression the pins could not be replaced. I’ll have to look at them closer then! Thanks Dos Cincos!

I have a set of used hinges that I would part with if you decide not to rebuild the ones on your car.

If you decided to tackle the job yourself you'll need a punch and a BFH and the hinges off the car. I bought my replacement pins from Carpenters

Thanks! I think I'll try it. Planning to pick up some new strikers as well.

  9. I have a few spares, but haven't ever rebuilt any all these years. I collected hinges from so many parts cars (55-56 Fords, and Mercs will interchange as well), even discovering the early/late model one bolt vs. two hinges. On my Tudor I did, I used a set of four-door sedan hinges (lighter door) to replace the worn out 2-door hinges.
