    1. Changing my split rims to 16x8 - 8 lug

    2. Bought rims and tires - dodge - 285/75r/16 all terrain tires off of craigslist

    3. Mounted them and backspacing too much - tires rub against tie rods when turning

    4. What to do next to fit or replace?

    5. Should I -- purchase new/used rims and what backspacing size?
-- purchase spacers to get the clearance I need?

Thank you for any comments. Chris

Unfortunately, since the arrival of IFS on 4WD trucks in the early 90's, this is how wheels are made now. Probably the options are use spacers or try to find earlier wheels, say from the 70's and 80's.

What about 70's to 80's Chevy, Dodge, or Ford 16.5" wheels.

Seems like rubbing on the tie rods would occur as soon as the wheels were mounted. Rubbing on the drag link is more likely if it happens only when turning. If that is truly the case, lengthen and bend the drag link.

Jalopy Joker...see my profile pics and Dale Fairfax....the tires rub on the lower shock mount. 1955IHC...yes, it is looking that the 70-80's rims will fit without a problem, or a vintage deep dish. Anyone know of anyone or a junk yard that has 4 rims? Or, my last solution would be to go to a wheel customizer. Any ideas? Thanks

Keystone wagon white rims would be another option 16x7 8 lug with backspacing of 4 inches.
