;)I have a 55 ford customline and I am wanting to put a disk brake rear end in the 55 can any one tell me what one I should use.

Or what gear I should run I have the stock rear end I think its a 390 gear and when Im on the highway it sounds like it needs to change another gear

If you want to change gears, find a rear for an automatic as they have a higher (lower numerically) gear.

An alternative is to get an 8 inch or nine inch rear. The ones that are bolt ins are 57-59 Ford (9inch) or 64-66 Mustang (8inch).

I hear a lot of people have used 75-80 Granada rears, but these are a little wider and the spring pads are different than a 55-59 so have to be moved.

Other people have used Explorer rears. Not sure of the width of these and most likely the spring pads have to be moved. Not sure of the years either.

I used an 8.8 out of an explorer, the diff. is offset. I had it shortened making the long side the same length as the short side, got a new axel for the short side. Lokar cable for the parking brake. This gave me a axel with Posi, explorer rear disk. You will have to remove all the brackets from the rear end weld on new spring brackets. I know its a lot of work but I think it is worth it.
