Does anyone here have a stock '55 Ford instrument cluster? I'm researching an old Hot Rod and it had a '55 Ford cluster but the speedo showed 150 MPH - Could this have ben a T Bird dash? I'm thinking a stock 272 '55 wouldn't have had a speedo that went that high. Thanx!
I have a '55 Ford that my parents bought new. The '55 Ford speedometer reads up to 120. The T-bird speedo looks just like a '55 Ford car speedo and uses the same housing but reads up to 150. A Tbird speedometer would bolt into a '55 Ford car, in fact '55 cop cars got Tbird speedos.
You're welcome. Top left corner of the Google page. Type in what you want to see and you will be flooded with images that have been posted on the net. It's great for identifying old car parts. I typed in 55 Tbird dash. Bingo. Not sure if it's a 37 or 38?...Google images. Edit the year and do another search. You can cover a whole decade in minutes. Just be cautious. There can be a lot of errors because the original poster didn't know what he had.
I also have a 55 Ford Fairlane . The speedometer is 120 mph . The T-Birds came with the 150 speedometers . Neither car would have hit the 150 mph even going down hill ! It was there more for the WOW thing . The cars came with a 272 in 55 and the T-birds I think had the 292 . Anyway you can't get to 150 mph with less than 200 hp in a 55 T-Bird ! Now if you have a 120 speedo face plate you can just buy the 150 speedo and then change your trans speedo gear to get it accurate . Retro Jim
