It'd be alot cooler if you took the plastic insert out of the bezel...

 

Yeah, I know! I'm not sold on it so I left it as is.

I found an original for $20 last night and it matches the rest of my trim, solid score.

 

My oldest daughter spent all weekend with me in the garage. It was awesome. We got the quarter trim on together.

I discovered I should have welded in the trunk latch bracket before I painted... oooppps. I will have to figure out a solution for that. Then I can align the trunk, put the weather stripping on and repair the paint that got damaged in transport.

 

So, I forgot to weld these parts in prior to paint... it gets welded to the floor and to the tail pan. My concern is screwing up the paint on the tail pan.

I know the wet rag trick, but does anyone else have a suggestion thats not welded? I feel like JB weld or something like that would not be a good long term solution. Though, not like I will be in and out of the trunk a lot.

 

Panel bonding adhesive just might do the trick.

 

There are a number of methacrylate adhesives specifically for metal, most are two-part and require a applicator, may be the strongest short of welding.

Sorry, that link was an epoxy based adhesive.

I don't know how I missed this. The 55 Chevy has always been a favorite of mine. Great car. You're doing a great job. Keep us posted.

 

I want to know how you got the engine and stand to hover in the air like that?

 

If you look closely you’ll see that a lifting strap is p***ed through the tunnel ram and is being held up by a chain.

Well I do need new ones.

 

LOL Crane. I moved it to my buddies shop to build it. He's got a crane and a lift.

I'm lucky that I have skilled friends who like building cool stuff that let me use their shops.

 

Well, here is what's done since I moved it:

Engine
Trans
Gas tank and fuel system
Front shocks
Drivers side trim

Fitting and adapting the steering column is next. Also getting the master cylinder in and routing the brake lines around the headers. Need to order some parts.

Updated pic of how she sits with the engine and trans in. And an artsy fartsy one because while laying on my back putting the trim on I thought it looked cool.

 

Someone, at some point, painted the headers with plain old spray paint. Looked nice until we broke the motor in.

So had them sandblasted, and I painted them with VHT high temp ceramic.

 

Is there a collector muffler welded onto those headers?

 

Sure is. Not sure what brand, there's nothing on them to I.D. them. If anyone has a guess, I appreciate it. They were on there when I got the project.

They look like they belong. Ive seen some that look too obvious

 

They do a fair job taming the open headers from the hour or so I've heard it. I have video of what it sounds like, but its cell phone audio.

 

Not sure if you solved the trunk latch issue, but I'd get some automotive panel bond. If it can hold doors on modern cars, it can hold on your trunk latch.

Thanks. I'm going to weld it around the floor and then panel bond to the tail panel if needed.

 

I think for this year/2027 I'm going to run the rallys I have out back with the hoosiers, and then get some torque thrusts for the front and cerekote them magnesium like Kleet did with his '55 to get me rolling. We'll upgrade down the road.
