  1. I thought those were square port manifolds;the 55 has round ports as far as I know.

Ports are round on all 50s Pontiac V8s. They do increase size with engine displacement.

  3. Ok here's something that was useful to me. You can use the later aluminum spin on oil filter adapter on the early engines. Its a bolt on and makes it easy to find oil filters. The stock canister type oil filter element is hard to find and a bit pricey.

  5. Drew hasn't posted on this thread since Nov, '16 and his profile doesn't show him owning any Pontiacs. Makes me wonder if he was maybe looking at buying a project with no trans or a bad trans. Anyway, I've owned 11, 55-57 Pontiacs and the 287 motor was a nice little motor but it wasn't gonna keep up with a 283 chevy without a little work. And the only other automatic trans other than an early 4 speed hydro would be one of those horrible late 56-60 Pontiac automatics. A lot of guys will argue with me but after being spoiled with a "crisp" shifting slant pan hydro [the original automatic in a 55 Pontiac] I wouldn't have one of those slow-shifting bastards from a later Pontiac. I've put hotrod 389's in front of those slant-pan hydros and they'll make a 55-56 Pontiac run very hard. The gear spacing [ratios] in the old slant pan could have been a little better for drag racing but B&M fixed that problem. Besides, they werent' originally made for drag racing.
Still, I much prefer a manual trans...this is the secret to putting a Muncie 4 speed behind a 55-60 Pontiac motor.

Hey that's correct. I walked away from that car. Wish I hadn't, cause I waited past the point where it's appreciated to get another one
