need to know if the gl*** and chrome around the gl*** on a 55 safari are the same as a 55 nomad including the windsheild and wing windows? and does anybody know where to find the gl*** for one?
For gl*** call Bob Robison at Bob's Cl***ic Auto Gl***. His phone number ,in Oregon, is 1-800-624-2130. He's also a supplier for Steele Rubber products (window rubbers). He's a good guy. As far as the mouldings Safari vs. Nomad, I'm 99.9% certain they're the same.
~Mouldings around the outside, 1/4 windows, and the liftgate window trim and tailgate vertical bars and handle. ~Upper liftgate and hinges ~lower tailgate shell and hinges Basic stuff, but since you are starting out, I figured youmight not know...?: ~Internal garnish ouldings, too. ~cargor floor stainless trim is different than Chevy, since the Pontiacs had the tire board over to the side instead of centered. ~All gl*** (some repro. gl*** I have heard is "thin", including a couple of the well-known Chevy gl*** specialty places who say they make it). I have talked to Bob at "Bob's", and I am going to start buying gl*** from him. He has a little different story than most of the repro. gl*** mfrs.. A big gl*** mfr. does his, and they seem to really try to make them right. Heard good things about his stuff, and Chevs of the 40__s and others sell his gl***, I have learned. Hopefully this will save you some $ trial and error. Get a Danchuk 1955-57 Chevy catalog, Trim Parts, and C&P in PA. These are mfrs. who make the few pieces that will interchange between Chevy and safari, since they're Nomad pieces.
Wagons is right. Chevy & Pontiac shared everything from the beltline up between the 2 wagons. The Doors & the T/gate are common, but that's where it ends. Everything from the beltline down is pure Poncho, which shares F-All with Chevy. The spare tire position means that even the damn cargo floors & gas tanks are different. BTW- the 55 Safari tank is a unique, 1 year piece, so I hope yours is good.
Auto City Cl***ic for gl***, do an internet search. I bought my side gl*** for my hardtop this weekend, $160 for all six pieces, gl*** only.
Lots of help here. Also contact Safariknut....truly knowledgeable about Safaris. He's here at H.A.M.B. Search his name. Give him a shout. Great guy and will help.
The stuff around the front windshield and vent windows should be the same as a "hardtop" car, as well, if I remember correctly.
I've heard that the actual roof itself differs even though the gl*** is shared. You can probably swap over the doors. I parted out a couple down to selling the tops from them, if you need to know how any of the internal structure works let me know.
