Hot Rods 1956 buick wagon electrical problem

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bruce Fischer, Dec 12, 2014.

  1. Sorry guys I couldn't find the old thread I posted about the 56 buick wagon having electrical problems and hard starting. I replaced the starter relay on the fender as suggested and she fired right up. I think the carb need a rebuild now . Not sure if I can do it .Its just a 2 barrel but I not good with carbs .I just wanted to thank you all for all the input on the old girl.Bruce 00202_1Aqq4PzouRH_600x450-1.jpeg .

You can rebuild the carb. You need a good rebuild kit, plenty of carb cleaner, a well ventilated area, and a gallon or two of patience!
Take your time, take pictures as you take it apart if needed.
Most carb kits come with pretty good instructions.
Check with Carb King here on the H.A.M.B. for more info.
    Good luck!

If you can figure out how a commode works, you can figure out an old carb. You do have commodes in Tennessee, don't you? ;)

    Does the starter motor operate?
Does the engine not fire? Did you check to see that the coil+ is hot with key on and not hot in ACC position? Make sure it stays hot during cranking. If not, you may need to check key wiring to see that coil wire is not on ACC side, which goes off in START position. Coil+ must hot during cranking. There may be another wire connected to coil+ from a small pole on starter which should only be hot when key is in START position. You may have to test them separately, if coil+ does not show hot during START.
