I have 354 hemi in an old hot rod that I found and it is leaking out of the weep hole on the bottom. (seals are bad). the bearing seems to be tight. Does anyone know of any kit to rebuild one? or some info on what to buy to rebuild it? Im trying to get it done by the next show p.s. im 21 years old any info would help...
I don't know of any kits - but you might get lucky on ebay. Your local Mom and Pop's auto parts store might be able to get yours rebuilt. I always grab these up at swap meets - if you're gonna drive an early hemi - you gotta have a few spares in inventory if you know what I mean. I scour swapmeets for all this stuff. If you get desperate you could always put a chevy conversion on it, but IIRC that switches the bottom outlet to the opposite side ;-( One other thing - IF you run across ANY early MOPAR pump at the swapmeets that look close (measure the impeller size) -GRAB IT - you can disassemble it and use it to rebuild yours - You will likely need to have access to a lathe - the IRON seal surface usually corrodes and THAT is what normally wipes out the seal. It's not super hard to chuck one up and take a minimal claen up cut on that surface.
Yeah I was gonna say to go with a big block chevy water pump conversion kit sold through Hot Hemi Heads, easier to find water pump, cheaper, everyone I know that runs an earlier hemi has the kit.
