Here’s another pic of my old 53
A friend gave me a beat up tailgate so I made a diamond brake on a piece of sheet metal and welded it over it
Merc taillights, 49 Chev front license guard
Rear plate folded down using a screen door hinge to reveal a hitch receiver, old chrome running boards, I Z’d the frame behind the cab 001FA1E9-F0A3-4A5B-8A0D-DD0B90BD4168.png , was nice and low but had lots of travel

Man, what a day. We drove out to Jack’s place early. @lumpy 63 brought reinforcements. His weekend crew of retired guys showed up to help. Man, what a great group of guys. They spent all day working on a guys truck that they didn’t know before today.

The owner of SoCal Paint and Body opened up his amazing shop for us to work out of all day. He even helped assemble the truck. The goal for today was to condense the 3 pickup loads of parts down to one manageable haul. We made some good progress. We had to figure out how to temp install the motor tranny to get it back to Oklahoma. I have a few assembly pics. Not great, I am bad about taking pics. Tomorrow we load the loose articles and put the truck back on my trailer to make the trek back home. Man, I am sure dreading the drive home…..

And done…..2700 miles round trip. The old 2002 brought her replacement back to OK. Never missed a beat, but at 7700 ft in Arizona I was beginning to wonder.

Big thanks again to @lumpy 63 and @56fordtrucks for helping me out.

I think I read somewhere that Ford did that to the wheelbase to improve the turning radius. Remember, these were just work trucks, where functionality trumped aesthetics!

I thought you said it had an OT front suspension...that looks traditional to me. o_O...kidding. Looks like it'll make a great replacemt for your DD.

I'd replace that "tube" axle with a "beam" axle.

It does have a death wobble at 70. Maybe it has too much caster? :p

For only $5 more you could have bought a red truck!:D

That is bright! I like it! Will be sharp once you get all the chrome on it.

I think it needs scallops to break it up. We still have plenty of time for that….

Here's an idea of how it will look with all the chrome on it. Love the color by the way.

If you are going to scallop it, then you can do that front, canted quads rock..... not everyone thinks so, but we don't care what they think....

  27. 53-56 F100s look amazing with canted quads. The big opening is just perfect with filling with quads and a custom grille.

Seen a few F1s with 61 Chrysler grilles and headlights. Always liked them, could use 59 Chevy headlights as base to then rotate them. A narrowed rear 59 Impala rear bumper would look good up front as well.

  28. This is the truck I was trying to find a picture of. Great scallops and awesome canted quads. I wore out 2 copies of the rod and custom it was in staring at it in school, lol.

  29. Love those scallops

  30. In my stash of old photos found a good close up of a 53-56 F100 with quads (not sure what headlight ring they used) and a 55 Chevy grille surround and a 59 Buick(?) grille made to fit.
