I have a 302 ford motor in my 56 ford and I have a one wire alt on it I ran the hot wire from alt to the battery wire where the Regulator was and I need to get the light off in dash so how do you wire it up ?? there was two more wire hook up to the regulator so what do I do with them ??

  2. not sure how you would make the charge light work with a one wire , it would be easy with a three wire

  3. That 'one wire' alternator should have a 'I' terminal on the back of it; connect the light to that....

If you are meaning the original idiot light from when you had a generator DO NOT hook it up.The alternator should be hooked up to a volt meter the alternator amps are almost triple that of the old generator. One of the main reasons for going one wire is to reduce under the hood wiring "clutter" You should use a 6 gauge cable from the alternator direct to the battery positive terminal.

  5. Any OEM-type alternator should have a connection for the idiot light. I'm not sure on the one-wire units, but the earlier Ford alternators need a 15-25 ohm resistor in parallel with the light to work right or the light won't go off.
