Projects 1956 ford mainline tudor sedan 1960s lowrider/custom build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56 ford custom, Aug 2, 2011.

  1. I have had this car since I was in high school, I have done small things here and there. Didnt have a great job and the car looked like a pile. Now finally I got down to business. Well hope you guys enjoy and follow my build. Thanks.

Here is the car alittlle after high school. I took too leafs out of each side in the rear then flipped the shacles. For the front I cut about two turns out of each coil. It sat real nice the ride was actually not too bad, I just had to cut out the rear of the tunnel a bit to clear the driveshaft and u joint.

I started dismantling the car and unbolted the body from the frame. Then I dropped the car off to a good buddy of mine. He started with all the frame work, Where did you guys get your new body mounts and bolts? Nobody sells a full kit anymore?

Well got to go to work. I will post more this evening.

56 ford custom. I found most of the parts I've needed from Concours Parts & Accessories in Carson City, Nevada. Friendly people and quick service.

I want to get the car back home very soon and get in back to one peice. The other build thread I have is a 1960 f100 custom cab big window short bed. You guys should also check that one out. ive been checking out that build to...I like the new Y-block your dropping into it with the ram horns.

  10. Yeah I love those manifolds. Been looking for those for a good while. The stock single exhaust with crossover robs way too much power.

Im goin there this weekend what do you need?

  24. Im in need of the little support bar that bolts together between the top of the core support. Its at the top of the radiator behine the tank. I will get a list going for you.

  25. Here are more pics as I promised.

cut out all the stock bump stop brackets and notched the inside of the coil bucket for the air bag clearance, also notched the frame for arm clearance, with a drop spindle it will lay on a 27-28" tire, still need some more trimming but heres some pics so far.

did some more modification and got it to lay out on a 28" tire with no drop spindles.

The front is all done, both side are cut out, had to notch the frame for the arms, and notch for the steering, also cut the bag cups already, just cant get the 2600 bags to fit they are to wide so I had to buy 2500s.

Heres a pic of the other side done, notched for steering also, and yes that is a 2600 bag in the pic, but it rubs, in the pic its pushed to one side so you cant tell.

Here are all the 4 link bushings

Here is my c notch. It flows perfectly with the frame almost looks stock.

  26. Cleaned the axle and frame, got the 4 link mounts made and mounted on the frame, also made the lower link bars and axle tabs and mounted the lower link bars.

Well more pics to come this evening.

The '56 two doors are a nice ride. Yours is a nice car. I bought one new and my son has it now. It was a Special Order (mid '56) and was built in the Pico Rivera, CA plant. It came with a yblock 312 with triple dueces. Now it has a yblock 340 using the old valve covers and has a dual quad setup using a Ford '57 312 intake manifold. It is a true fun car to drive.
