Hey just had a quick question. I have a 1956 GMC 270, and I am wanting to get it rebuilt. Does anyone know of someone that rebuilds these?

    Thanks

They are not very exotic or mysterious so most capable machine shops should be able to handle it. That said , lately finding a capable machine shop might be the challenge.

I expect that anyone with useful info with a machine shop, won't be where you are...which might be somewhere in Kansas?

If you let us know where you are, you might get more useful info.

Also, some us like to figure out the condition of an engine, and do what's necessary to make it do the job we plan to give it. That might or might not require a complete rebuild. It might be as little as new piston rings, gaskets, and perhaps a valve job. But we don't know what you're planning to do with your 270.

If your having a machineshop do all of the work including ***embly if they have experience with the Chevrolet 235/261 they will not have a problem. It’s good time to upgrade to a full flow oil system which just involves some drilling/tapping and a plug. Fittings, hoses and a remote filter adapter is the parts involved. Not necessary but a nice addition. The photo shows the lines from the block and adapter on my sons GMC. I’ve done them with push on fittings and Goodyear blue hose.
Care should be taken when rebuilding the rocker arm system and there is an exchange system available. Rod and mains are available up to .030” under and is not detrimental to its operation.
As with everything today expenses are up along with lead time. DD030052-4D0A-4B0B-BC8F-5FEDF9E324E5.jpeg

Yup, we're not talking rocket surgery here.

Any shop with a good reputation, that has been in business for a while should be able to do whatever is necessary to freshen it up (barring unforeseen issues).
