I am working on a couple 56 Mercury 2 doors and am trying to install a trunk mat and side board pieces I bought from Auto Custom Carpets. They came with generic instruction (no trimming required) and the stiff side board pieces make no sense at all. I have nothing original to go by. I don't know if they go clear out against the outer 1/4s and then curve in around the wheel wells or what. Has anyone here done a 55-6 Merc or Ford and know how they fit? I have searched for videos with no luck. The company really doesn't have much actual advice besides the instructions provided with the kit. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The best I can remember, the card board bends so that it covers the deep wells from behind wheel tub to the taillight area. It protected the fender from getting inside dings. (50 year old memories.)

Hmm...I can look in mine. As far as I know, it still has all the original pieces in it.

Bent one goes on the left in a Ford. By my photo you can see the gasoline vent tube going thru a slot. My left bottom/angle slot has nothing. Right side is flat. I used fender washers and sheet metal screws in the provided slots. They are there to protect that place between the trunk floor and outer body from getting shit dumped in it.

Thanks for the help. I did get them put in, but what a pain. They are much bigger than the Fords shown. They tuck in up against the outer skin clear to the back by the tail light, bow way in to go around the wheel well and go all the way up the the backside of the rear seat. The new ones are one big, stiff piece with an ill cut slot for the trunk hinge area. No trimming needed the instructions say...lol. They really don't fit the floor contour around the wheel well either, but I did get them in without too much modifying. Not my car and this is what the owner wanted, but I wouldn't do it for one of my cars, especially considering the price of them. Thanks again!

I’m guessing Mercs were more involved because they were a step up from the lowlife pee-on Fords. :( A photo would have been nice..
