Hi There, I need help on a new power brake system for my '56 Olds Super 88. The car has front disc conversion (from what seems to be 80s Chevy van; done by a previous owner), and the stock rear drums. There was still the stock single master cylinder with brake booster, one of which failed (not sure which), so both are currently removed. I definitely need to upgrade to a dual circuit master, so I'd like to get input on: - If there are any actual upgrades available specifically for this car - If there is anything from another make/model that will fit this car with minimal fab - If a universal dual master & booster is a better route Any helpful ideas and/or links to information is much appreciated!! Jen
I think Martin_F just finished a brake conversion on his Olds. You might contact him. Others will chime in I am sure.
Just in case you are thinking about matching the mc/booster with the front brakes, I have a 75 Chev van and an 82. The 75 G10 has a little smaller booster and swoopier mc than the 82 G20. Larger booster and kind of squarish mc on the 82.
Thanks @vtwhead here is my conversion thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/disc-brake-conversion-on-my-1956-oldsmobile.868225/ I couldn't find a dual reservoir master that just fits. Also the position in front doesn't help. That's why I used the Corvette cylinder that has fittings on both sides. But you have to cut the frame a little... Jen, let me know if you have any more questions.
