I'm talking about the area on the actual crossmember just inside of where the upper control arm mounts bolt on. Is that what you mean, or the a-arms themselves?

  12. and ohhh i remember putting on primer..when i thought primer from walmart would be fine..then realizing i dont want that and taking it off...that was fun

  16. this is for benjammin...or anyone wanting to know how to take apart the back quarter window in a 1956 olds 4 door hardtop....there are 3 areas that have screws as shown...one set is behind the rubber seal..which slides down and outta the way...the glass is secured in the channel with a rubber liner and those stainless steel strips wedged in..this is my window take apart today

  17. I found this all out today....after....i chipped the window glass trying to get it out whole....not that the glass was all that good but i hate to just destroy anything vintage....but as you can see...well....i had to put her down....but i can appreciate design it created

    hey shane
looking good, glad you liked the bumpers.
have a question about the velcro strips is that 3/4" or 1" wide, did you have a tough time getting it glued in the channels. it looks like it would work out nice, i am going to need to do the same on mine.
i was thinking the same thing on the roofing tar stuff on the floorboards, i bought some bright silver fiber reinforced roof coating that i am going to use on the underside of the floorboards, was thinking it would reflect alot of heat and help keep the car a little cooler. once i get my new floorpan welded in i am thinking i will do the same as you did on your floor or try some of the truckbed coatings on the inside.
I seen on some other threads that lowes/home depot sell an adhesive flashing that comes in a roll that makes a good sound deadner.

  21. http://www.mansionathletics.com/index.html......go here...this is where i got my velcro 2 inch wide strips sold by the foot for 50 cents...its a cheerleader gymnastics flooring place...raaa raaa...i got the 2 inch one and spit it in two on some areas...just remember to get the fuzzy side stuff;)...and i had some of that flashing stuff from my house build.. it would work too...i just like the stuff i did cuz it went in every crack and groove..its watertight now:D and yes thanks for the stuff you sent..it was awesome!!....

Wow! Best info I could ever ask for on the windows!

Also, you need to frame this one and put in in the shop. Pure art.

I have seen this proven and disproven on YouTube. Some say you can also rub it with aluminum foil while it is in the vinegar. Who knows. Others have used coca-cola to remove rust. In the end, I think anything acidic will help loosen it up.

  24. we will see...the pb blaster in a can eats alot of the rust..i just thought i would let it sit in this batch and see what happens,,,:) and i hope the little thing i whipped up on the computer shows you how the window goes together..wish i had that when i started....but now i know...ps i can disasemble and put my front door mechs and glass in blindfolded now...as i have done it over and over till i was satisfied...

It will help a lot! I'm planning to do one door at a time and disassemble everything: locks, door rods, and window mechanism and clean it all up like you did. I have to do one window at a time because i have to work on my car outside.

One thing i am going to change is that i'm going to put the universal power window kit in mine so my 7 year old and my wife can enjoy the car a little more. My wife has bad shoulders so cranking a window would not be good for her.

While i'm in there, i'll probably put power locks in too since the door lock actuators are super easy and cheap to use.

  26. VERY NICE...i plan on doing them too..but down the road after i get mine running and driving...post your adventures when you do them to the power locks and windows..i would love to see how it went and any problems and the way you hooked it up...i figure after i get mine running and its my daily driver i plan on each weekend fine tuning stuff like adding those things and re chroming items...till every thing is mint...

You had that Olds stuffed on that trailer. I really like low budget(no such thing) builds. I'm heading out to work on my '59 Dodge. Thanks for the inspiration !!!
