After 8 years of sitting in the garage undriven, I'm getting my Chieftain in shape to get back on the road. When I parked it in September of 2014, it was to replace the floor pans. Got the engine going again with a new coil and a little attention to the points. But now, my brake pedal goes to the floor and doesn't return on its own. I haven't had time to crawl underneath and look at the master cylinder an d brake lines, but I suspect the problem is in the master cylinder which is the stock single reservoir model. Back in 2014, I acquired Scarebird's front disc brake conversion and purchased everything except the Wilwood dual reservoir master cylinder, though I did get Scarebird's bracket. What I would ike to do is to go ahead and change out to the Wilwood 260-7563 master cylinder, locate and replace any leaking components (if there are any) on the stock system, and get it driveable, then do the front disc conversion.

My question is about what I need in the way of a proportioning valve and residual valves for the stock drums, and same for the front disc/rear drum setup. I would like to hear from others who have used this conversion and what they did and their results.. Thanks.

Sorry, can't answer your actual question but I would be interested in seeing how you mount the MC and booster; I need to do something similar on my 57... tx.

If the car has been sitting since 2014, you will probably need to replace all the wheel cylinders, and the master cylinder. Brakes don't like to sit unused.

And the hoses. Don't spend a lot of $$ if you have most of the disc parts on hand. Go for it.

What brake fluid do you recommend in this 56 Pontiac?

Yes. I have the installation sheet in my hands.
