Hot Rods 1956 ranch wagon overdrive

I just bout a 56 ranch wagon with a 223 6 banger and 3 on the tree. How do I engage the overdrive? Just pull the cable at any time?

Push the T handle in to engage overdrive at any speed and when you lift off the gas pedal it will automatically drop into OD. Thats if the relay fuse is not blown. If it is then it it will not shift into OD. There is more to know but this will get you in the right direction. I would do a search on Borg Warner OVERDRIVE operating instructions.
