A while back I acquired a '56 Ford station wagon rear for a project that ended up changing directions. I've still got it and I occasionally consider its potential use. It has nice big drums on it, and I ***ume these are larger than the standard p***enger-car brakes. Obviously, if I ever swap it into something, I'd like to have front brakes to match. Can anyone educate me on how the front brakes on a '56 Ford wagon differ from those on a sedan and what the specs are on both? Thanks. -Dave
As you can see from this page from the 56 Ford Manual, front brakes are the same for sedan and wagon. The rears are 2" wide for the wagon and 1 3/4" for the sedan. They are all 11" diam.
If you look up the part number of the brake shoes and see what 60's & 70's Ford used the same ones by using the hardware and self adjuster kits you can upgrade to self adjusting brakes for under$ 50 another EZ upgrade is this:
