A few years ago I bought a complete 283 that was supposed to be some super awesome hot rod motor that was built up on a '57 Corvette block. I checked the numbers and it was a 3731548 casting, and B277. Could be Corvette, could be passenger car.

I tucked it away and recently decided to see if it was possible that it actually came out of a Vette. Cleaned up the pad on the front pass side and was greeted w a blank pad with "SER" w a circle around it.

Most likely a GM replacement block, or is this a rebuilders stamping after being gone through? 0726211028.jpg

Yep, that was my exact thought process when he said "It's a Corvette block". Yeah, of course it is.

But is was an early block sans side mount bosses- and it was cheap. It's origins don't matter to me much. I was just curious if the "SER" stamp meant anything in particular.

It's just a block that's had the deck resurfaced. No way to know what it's originally out of, now.
