Hi.. i've seen a few posts on these already and there was some good info and good tech articles already.. but i've seen a few options that have popped up that i wanted to ask for some info on or opinions on. I see that CPP ( classic performance) has a front drop axle kit which will lower down nicely, which i will probably go with.. they also have a rear c-notch kit as well. to get the truck down and ride nice without having to bag it or lose your ride comfort without banging over every bump. however i have also seen that Performance online also makes this https://www.performanceonline.com/1...ENSION-KIT-MULTI-LEAF-SPRINGS-FRONT-and-REAR/ Any thoughts on that as opposed to a drop axle in front with the c-notch in back. will that still ride nice while still accomplishing the lowering.. or they also make a Mono leaf front and Rear supposedly to factory specs of GVW? https://www.performanceonline.com/1957-60-FORD-F-100-Truck-Rear-Mono-Leaf-Spring-Set/ SO wondering if i should do that drop axle in the front with either the dropped springs or mono in the back and will it still ride nice.. or is the only way to get a nice ride out back is to do the C-notch kit? I"m not the most technical so any help on this would be appreciated. I'm still learning and want to know the best way to do this.. not only economically obviously, but for ride enjoyment. I don't mind spending more thought to get the best results as i understand if you cheap out you get what you pay for... any info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks guys!
The C notch is for when you move your axle to the top of the springs and use blocks. All if does is make room for the axle to travel. If you don't have a clearance problem you don't need a c notch. The real question you ask yourself is how much do you want to drop it. if you move the axle to the top of the springs you get 3" (axle tube diameter) plus the thickness of the springs so you could easily get 4-5" of drop in the rear. Then you will need to check your clearance on the frame and see if you have room for the axle to travel or if you need a c notch to give you the clearance that you are after. Make sense?
That definitely makes sense. Thanx. What i don't understand is that they make sets of multi leaf springs with a supposed 5" drop. Does that still leave enough clearance without notching. .. or they have a mono leaf as well for dropping. How does that ride with those products? I guess i should call the companies and ask them stuff as well. Haha. But thanks for responding.
on mine I put reverse eye multileaf lowering springs I bought from a Hamber that was going with IFS and in the back I made extended shackles, raised the front mounts (about 1.5 inches for both so the pinion angle was still fine) and took out all the "helper" leafs (3 or so) that lowered me about as far as possible without notching the frame.....keep in mind, when you lower the front using springs, pan clearance can be a problem. That is avoided with a dropped axle, but you will need tie rod drops. also, if you go too low, steering geometry/bump steer will be a problem.....
They may still get drop with multi springs by such means as a combo of reversed eyes, lighter springs, re-arched springs, etc. A good place to look is here.... http://midfifty.com/lowering.php
