Just wondering if there was a place to get a new heater motor for my car. Mine no longer spins and my searches online have not come up with an answer. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

There are some aftermarket parts suppliers that sell universal blower motors. Macs auto parts, for one. You might want to try a local auto salvage yard. Many GM heaters use similar motors. You could possibly repair yours if you put new brushes in it and clean/lubricate the shaft. They often just gum up and can't turn.

  4. NAPA has a ton of listings, but you'll need to do the work of figuring out which one you need...

Make sure it's the motor, not the switch or resistors if so equipped. There is no doubt you can find something to work, but it may require some minor mods.

  5. ^^^^^^local NAPA has a catalog listing with pics of all the replacement motors. Give them a try.

Around here, there are places that will rebuild your motor, mostly Mennonite for some reason, but very, very good. You might check around in your area or look in Hemming's. I'd bet your old motor, if repairable, would be far better than any replacement made today.

Figure out what's wrong with the old one first, sometimes it's a simple fix.

When the blower motor on my 57 T-Bird was dying, I found one at a refrigeration supply house. I was picking up some R-134 for work and asked if they had any 12 volt blower motors. The guy picked up a catalog and it had a large variety of 12 volt motors. I found a 2 speed motor that looked like a direct fit. What I found was it was slightly larger and the shaft was a little larger in diameter than the original. I bored out the attaching hole in the squirrel cage and it's been on the car for close to 20 years.

I found the same when I was looking for a blower wheel for my '54 Chevy truck, which required a reverse rotation
CCW squirrel cage. Turned out that a HVAC supplier had just the item, and was 10% of what the speed catalogs
    wanted. Bob

Thanks for the replies. I went to a local auto parts store and they were able to look up the number on the original and get a cross reference number. They found one that is supposed to work. They gave me the website that I can buy it from. A motor repair business that we do business with at work did not want any part of it. I will take it apart and see if I can do anything with it before ordering a new one. Will see how well it comes apart as it is covered in what looks like undercoating. I took my heater core to a radiator shop and they said it came back good. They flushed a lot of stuff out of it but after it was clean it tested good. Hopefully will have heat and defrost before too long.

Seems like Pontiac & Olds are very similar? I have one that works, but given the work to put it in, I would want one that has been freshened up!
