Can someone help me here>>>> does the stop lights on a 57 chev pick up work off a switch of the foot brake?????
If you look on "the greasy side of the tow board" or the engine side of the firewall @ the brake pedal where it comes through the floor, there should be a knife switch with the lever portion of the switch resting on brake pedal arm. As you apply the brake, the lever moves, completing the circuit and you have brake lights.
Just found out my 57 doesnt have this which means i have no brake lights would anyone have this setup spare i could buy????????
hi all this 57 pickup rebuild is into its 6th month.i will put up some pictures of the e build soon.i am after a foot brake assembly as the one I have is a set up out of something else.i need the whole assembly too.hope someone can help..... cheers Tony
Tony - I see pedal assemblies pretty often on epay. The auction site. Or, go on over to Stovebolt.com and place a wanted ad in their classifieds. You can do that here too. Also, you might want to pick up a shop manual and factory assembly manual for your truck. It is a big help.
FWIW, we're parting out three '55-59 Cheby pickups. Parts which can be fit in a USPS Flat Rate Box would be fairly priced. If it requires labor to crate, still fairly priced, just think about how hard it will be to find good sheet metal locally. jack vines
If you're missing the brake pedal, are you missing the master cylinder too? If you are, I'd suggest getting a whole set up from someone like Brothers, LMC, etc. and get a pedal setup with a dual master cylinder. The brake light switch, mounted on the engine side of the toe board, is activated when the brake pedal is pushed away from the toe board (from the engine side point of view). You can get a new one of these from these suppliers too.
Thanks guys I want to put a new setup in the pickup if I could.Would these companies ship o/s do you think?
also if I put a new brake setup in the truck with a booster as my didn't have one before what do I have to change as I have a disc/drum setup or can I just bolt this in and away I go?
