To me, the 55 to 57 Chevy era, just don't make good looking "full on" customs. It is far more easier to go the other way. With that being said, bring the rear up a few inches, weld up the front doors and enter and drive from the rear seat, with the engine push back under the dash. While I have "you all" upcoming negative comments, add a little of the stock stainless.

It’s the car that He wants to rebuild and put back on the road. I for one will cheer him on and look forward to seeing his progress reports . If we all liked the same thing what a boring place this would be .

I'd love to drive that! Don't listen to these old guys telling you what to do with it, or how it was ruined. Nothing better than cutting up a "classic" and pissing off the restorers.

@Opel , where in Germany are you located? I read you´ll need to replace an inner rocker. I have a new one for a 55-57 Chevy , you can have it if you want. I´m about 80 km east of Munich.

@Baumi, I`m living between Cologne and Düsseldorf. But I will be in Munich in April. The part you have, is it the complete rocker? With inner sill and outer panel?

It´s only the inner rocker panel. I think it´s driver´s side. I´ll check and take a photo

A steel top with the Buick rear window is a great idea, and a full-length door two-door conversion would smooth out the side view

What astonishes me isn't that someone used body filler as sculpting clay, its that the slab of filler remained adhered to the hood apparently for decades.

  18. I've seen some Bondo hold that'd surprise you. Especially if there was rust underneath. Seen rust literally hold the filler on

@Tickety Boo: I prefer the 4 door over the 2 door because I have family and the 2 door look is not better in my eyes.
@Baumi: Thanks for the Kleinanzeigen ad heads up. I contacted him because I really could use the roof skin and it is close to my home.

I replaced the die-cast bolt-on upper grille opening by a welded tube and steel panel construction to make it one-piece. 250615 (1).jpg

The grille opening looks great! The headlights not so much. Like the 57 ford, it’s got that “I got kicked in the balls hard look”.

  29. "making it your own"....that's what it's all about.
    Nice work, enjoy the journey.

  30. Nice work so far, for sure better than some of what was on there.
