Big improvement! Some CLR and a scotchbrite pad would take a lot of that orange out of that surface rust if you so desire.

    WOW. looking really good taylor.
got a few questions for you...
is the new front axle stock or dropped, and if dropped how much ?
the mono's out back, what drop are those ?
how is your exhaust run, inside or outside of the frame ? and do you get any fumes inside the cab because of the dumps in front of the rear tires ?
thanks for the info and keep the updates coming....
    love them WW's

Its a stock axel. I think the monos give it about a 4" drop. The exhaust runs outside of the frame, and yes you do get a lot of fumesin the cab. The header gaskets are pretty worn so that dosnt help either. I also got a couple holes here and there.

Just went on the first "long" trip! Went about 40 miles on the freeway, with no problems!

Truck looks awesome! Have you ever seen a car that had the patina cleared over? I know it's not everyones thing but it's an idea.

Ya Ive seen that before. I was thinkin about doin some light sanding to get some of the surface rust off, and then shooting some clear over it just to seal it up til I get a real paintjob....

Some little things I did over the last couple days....

Pinstriped the hood, just to have somethin to show at shows. Gonna do the headlights too...

I also expieremented with some insulation/heat shield. Just duct taped it in to see how it work. It worked pretty good, so Im gonna get another sheet and put it farther up the fire wall and trim it up a lil better, than glue it down. Alot quieter in the cab now! Hopefully more of that shit farther up on the fire wall will cut down on the heat a little bit....

looks great! I love those trucks! (and all 55-59 chevy trucks really)

that thing looks badass with those ww's on it. only thing left to do now is to drive the PISS out of it!

  20. Very nice truck!

My 2 cents. Plug as many holes in the firewall that you can any way you can. That will do the most good to keep the heat out. The insulation will also help with heat and noise.

If you like the way the truck looks, I sure do, shop around before you paint it. I think I saw you had extra fenders, do some paint testing on those first. I shot clear on an old rusty oil pan I have cause I like the way it looks. Wanted to "preserve" the look. Only thing is it is too shiney, maybe I should have sprayed satin vs gloss or whatever. Something to think about.

hey man. nice looking "pickemup"! i wish my good buddy would get off his ass and get his truck back on the road. outta all of our cars , his needs the least amount of work. about the same type of work you did- except for the brakes and suspension. that is already done. keep on truckin.

Thanks! Im JB welding these little pieces of sheet metal over the holes, so I think that should do it. Those extra fenders are goin on instead of the spare tire mount. Im still a long ways away from paint si I'll figure something out....

Well...with all the fun and excitment of Mooneyes over with, I figured it was time to start sanding everything down to as close to barmetal I could get. Everything was going smoothly, only a lil bondo on the headlights and hood, but then I got to the door. All's I have to say is.....Fuck. The bondo was already chipped and falling out, so I got a little flathead screwdriver thinking "How bad can it be?" Well, its fucked.

I stopped after that piece fell out...

Yup. Will trade pinstriping work for body work help and doors! :D

its not that bad dude, I would not JB weld patches if I were you, they will fall off and ruin any kind of paint job you have. Your best bet is to find someone with a welder or learn yourself. The body work on that thing is minimal, if you really think its bad check my thread... Mine is considered decent to good.
