That's Larry Watson, lol. He had friends drive him around in his own car since he lost his license with so many violations. *correction That IS Larry, but it's not his Cadillac. From @Rikster :
Not much to report on the old Mopar. I drive it every chance I get. The trans and one axle are leaking a bit so I'll be pulling it apart sometime to address that, but otherwise the old girl is doing great! @Chili Phil and @50Fraud will be happy to know I bought BobK's '56 Lancer caps at his estate auction. I'm working out the wheel and tire situation to see how they look. Bob must have liked them, because they're on the drawing Weesner did of his Chevy. I'm proud to have them.
Priceless...keep the good times coming @Gotgas...changing up the look here and there is a bonus too...
Love that car....please buy another set of wheels and tires to put those caps on...I gotta say I love it the way it is..
Glad you were able to get those Lancer caps from Bob's auction, I feel like that auction was packed with sweet deals too. I bought the other 3 sets of '56 Lancer caps in the auction, along with the Olds Fiestas and some but not all of the '53 Caddy caps. Couldn't pass them up for the price. Looking forward to seeing yours get put to use!
Absolutely, I think every car deserves at least a couple decent sets of wheels! Thanks! I've got a million pics lol. I don't want to tear up the chrome wheels by mashing a set of caps on them. But I did hold the Lancers up to them, to get an idea of how they will look on the car... and they look pretty great with that chrome wheel lip. I'll photoshop a few colors to see what rim color looks best, but it will be a completely different set of wheels. Hoarder! You'll have to let us know what you run them on.
Finally got BB's wheel covers on the car. I bought another set of 15x5 and 15x7 wheels and we painted them gold. Then I reused the tires from the chrome reverse on these, and slapped the caps on. It looks pretty good! But it looks a little STOCK so I'll probably futz with them some more. But you get the idea.
Looks great. It's an elegant car, and a little more visual detail suits it well. I like the early Lancers, but it's the '56 Chrysler caps that I'm partial to (now on my shoebox).
The caps look great. I liked it with the chrome reverse just as much, but these are more special. A good mild custom often looks "stock" to the unwashed masses, or until it's right next to an actually stock one. Then the details really come out.
I never get tired of 1. looking at your car and 2. Observing that the Chrome Reverse look best. Sent from my Moto G (5S) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Someone in another thread asked about the draw of 50's cars. Duh. Sent from my LG-TP450 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks for all the comments, everyone! Heh, I'm really digging these Lancers right now, but I must agree. They will make another appearance, I guar-on-tee. I have an idea for some tires for the next round. Stay tuned!
I haven't dug into sidewall history enough to tell if this would be period correct (probably not), but with the gold rim peeking out of the cap, maybe this? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cok-579700/overview/ I like the caps, but the car is just so damn bitchin' it is great all three ways!
"...so I'll probably futz with them some more." madfish knocked this one out in Photoshop. ( ). ...and another with an added band of color (similar to Watson's T-Bird below it), for comparison.
With the chrome reverse wheels look at running a narrower white wall, like 1" or 1-1/2". The wide whites look great but the simple width change would really change the look and give it a more 61/62 vibe as that became the popular white wall size. The wide whites look awesome with those hubcaps though.
"D" (Taboo) your right, (whitewall width) but we all have to be happy, with our choices. Can't afford to change wheel/tire combo's at a whim.
