"tell me how you would have done it better" Well first I would,,aa ,hmmm,ee,maybe,,,,Nope, I got nothing.
My girlfriend Valerie and I decided to make a road trip out of getting from DFW to SoCal for the GNRS. I rented a car one-way and we did the I-40 / Route 66 thing, checking out all the nostalgic and natural points of interest we had time for. We had a blast! Everyone should do this. While we were road tripping, the car was being transported to Pomona by Tom Norwood (IG: https://www.instagram.com/tnorwoodtransport/). This is the first time the car has ever been trailered anywhere, so it was a big deal for me. I knew the car was safe and sound the entire trip because Tom has cameras in the trailer and he was constantly sending me updates, LOL. If you're looking for someone to haul your cars or parts anywhere in the nation, Tom Norwood is your man. Tom actually beat us there and was already in line for the show when we arrived. So we unloaded the car and Valerie and I took off to go wash it. It was a dream come true to have my mild custom cruising around southern California! photo credit: @Tom davison Axle was kind enough to give my Chrysler a front-row spot in the Suede Palace. I was stoked! It was right next to my friend Skratch's amazing Head Skratcher show rod. The cars that get driven into the GNRS are better than most you see anywhere else - and then there are buildings full of incredible cars! If you haven't been already, put this show on your bucket list. The entire weekend was amazing, we all had a great time. My dad even flew out to meet up with us - and I was so glad he did because Axle and his crew awarded my car the GNRS Suede Palace Best Custom! I couldn't believe it. There were some unbelievable cars in attendance, and I'm honored my car was even considered. When they announced the award, I grabbed my dad and made him come up on stage with me so I could give him credit for all the work he did on it in front of a big crowd! Even though he wasn't too pleased with me for doing that it was the highlight of a great week for me! Thanks for checking in.
congrats! Hope you had time to venture along Route 66 between Seligman and Kingman, but understand if time cut that side trip short. Local awards, lots of driving and now GNRS fame. What's still left on the bucket list for you, your dad and the car? Cobo? Future mods?
I really thought that I would have sold my '57 NY'er 4dr HT by now but everyone wants a '58 Ply-mouth. The longer I keep it the more I want a 392 HEMI. Even Rawa has gone Hemi. lol Congrats on your showing and recognition of all the hard work.
Been a while since I updated the thread. My dad said it’s ok to spam the board, as other people do too. My Chrysler was awarded ‘Gary’s Pick’ this weekend by Marc Meadors in honor of his late father, Gary Meadors, founder of GoodGuys. Marc said he knew his dad would love the car. Quite an honor! Thank you, Marc. Gary used to have this beautiful white and red '57 Desoto Fireflite. My car was definitely the odd one out of the group of flawless show cars with LS engines, billet wheels, and Roadster Shop chassis!
very cool! Always special to win at a Goodguys show and at the GNRS. Always loads of amazing cars at the events, but that car is just flat stunning!
Congrats, that car has always been a favorite of mine because it is so clean. simple and understated.
It's one of my favorites for sure. That's saying a lot coming from a Ford guy. It was well deserved. You and your pops did an outstanding job.
Very kool! I love seeing a traditional car beat out the big wheel LS cars and yours is such a great car. Well deserved!
That would be awesome, but unfortunately I already have plans to be in Florida I will put it on my calendar for next year for sure!
Congratulations!! Cool just can't go unnoticed....even if it doesn't have an LS. LOL Just gorgeous as always!!!!
While the Ls is the current favorite, your car is of a time yet timeless. The others will be looked back on as of the 2000s. How many 30 year old picks would still win today and how many would look dated? https://www.motortrend.com/features/3rd-annual-goodguys-monterey-january-1994-982-1534-54-1/photos/ There have been threads about playing it safe and this forum is about traditional rides, but the proof is in the awards. Your vision and follow through shows that you can build a car that isn't the latest fashion but still stands out with the best workmanship and detail.
