Love the car. You should have a good time at the round up. I’m due for another trip down there, but I can’t make it this time.
Still looks killer. I remember you fogged a little color in the center of your wheels? I've got a set of chrome reverse for mine and might like to do that. Any tips or tricks?
Still looks minty to me, but it's cool that it's being used enough to earn some kind of visible wear. I need to adopt this frame of mind. My painted stuff doesn't get used much, and it's not even close to this level of finish. I don't know what I'm saving it for. This is inspiration.
Well, something was bound to happen to it eventually. No idea what happened. It wasn't hot, it wasn't parked at a weird angle, and people nearby said there was no one standing next to it at the time. Please don't add to the internet drama about a mysterious lone gunman firing a round through a car window in the geographical center of the LSRU without anyone seeing it. Apparently this just happens sometimes. It didn't stop me from driving it up and down S Congress on Saturday night. Man, it was really perfect. All except that broken window. Don't worry, I'll fix it. Shit happens. I already got a couple of leads on a replacement. This was my favorite comment, though. Think I'm going to frame it!
I am so sorry that this happened to your beautiful car. You did such an outstanding job building it! What I really like is your amazing attitude; "Shit happens." I love it.
Crazy! I parked next to a guy at Stray Kat who someone chucked a rock at his car from the curb and broke the windshield, thought that might have happened to you too… for some reason a natural break doesn’t feel as bad as vandalism.. how hard are those to get?
There was a "friend of a friend" years ago that said he used to worry about driving his cars for fear of getting even the slightest bit of damage or wear on the paint job. It was not an expensive top-line show car finish, but he was proud of his body and paint work. He mostly cured his phobia by putting a small scratch in the paint himself in an inconspicuous area. This might even be the underside of the hood or decklid, or even inside a door jamb. It allowed him to drive his cars more frequently with much less fear of them getting their first scratch or chip in the paint.
Dang that’s a shame. I’ve seen that happened to a brand new car before. I predict she’ll be good as new before long.
Man, that stinks! Had that happen to the glass back window in my '64 Pontiac a million years ago....in the winter. Spend the next few weeks with plastic taped over it until it was warm enough to replace the top. Hope you find a replacement reasonably!
I've also seen a few rear windows (seemingly) spontaneously explode, while others seemed to take incredible amounts of punishment for tempered glass and never come apart. No idea why. That's a bummer, but also a point of pride. I would have put all that broken glass in a big jar on the shelf if it happened to me, maybe next to the snapped off axle I broke drag racing my T roadster. Ships are safest in port, but that's not why we build ships.
I've seen it happen, too. There is a lot of tension in the glass with those big, curved windows and sometimes they just let go. Then, for whatever reason, you can beat a piece of glass like it owes you money installing it and it's fine. Luck of the draw
It's probably not the same thing that happened to your car, but in the late 1970's something happened in Columbia Missouri that broke many car glasses. The day was pretty miserably hot and a storm appeared in the western sky. I saw it coming so went out to the street and opened the windows and rear hatch of my car for a few minutes to let out that superheated air. Closed everything up and went back inside. The wind whipped up and the cold rain started pelting everything. When all was over there were many broken windshields and back glasses in Columbia. My car survived just fine. Sorry about your car and hope you can get a replacement glass without having to donate a kidney.
I do, actually. It’s this guy. I’ve been trying to find a reason to meet up for years but it hasn’t worked out yet.
A friend with a custom Stingray has a candy apple paint job. He somtimes points to a scratch on the rear deck and remarks "My son did that. He would have been twelve this year."
This was around 1970 on a blazing summer day. My neighbor had her big '65 Olds 88, black and parked in the sun, windows up. I was sitting on my bike in front of their house talking to her brother when the rear window blew. It sounded like a pistol shot.
I was a couple of cars away when it exploded. Scared the crap out of me. I looked quickly and didn’t see anyone around the car. It was weird. I’m glad you have the stuff happens attitude. It’s refreshing. Snowman ⛄️
That a-hole should be charge with intent to cause bodily harm or more, then made to pay for the expense of finding a replacement and the cost of installation. Mindless twit. What the hell is wrong w people ….
So, Cliff Inmam is still with us? That’s very cool! And his Chrysler is just about my favorite custom ever. Your car is top shelf too. Sorry about your bad luck. Now about that top chop……….
