Maybe an odd request, but does anyone have a service manual for a 57 Ford Fairlane, I am wanted an exploded view of the rear brake assembly. I have the brakes but I received them disassembled and I believe I am missing some components relating to the emergency brake. I can find early mustang and the likes on the internet but not certain if the 57 would be the same ? Thankyou
They are pretty much all the same at least through 1974. Just look up 11" Ford applications. My '59 is still manual adjustment. Outside of the usual springs and star wheel, there is the equalizer bar and spring.
Just in case ,I had a 57 Ford and broke the spider gears well a 78 Granada rear mounts right in with ease
There's a number of threads here on a 57 that might help too. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...d&t=post&o=relevance&c[node]=5+18&c[prefix]=8
57 was the first year of the 9”, and it carried over with only relatively minor changes until the mid eighties. Self adjusters were added in 1961, and a few applications introduced rear disc brakes late in the run. 8” rears used brakes of the same design.
The 1958 mercury has self adjusting brakes. My 1957 merc didn't. You can use the self adjusting mechanism on your 1957 ford brakes
A simple up grade I did many times for my customers was 60-64 9 inch brakes. They're wider and come in 2.25X11 inch for the small bearing and 2.50X11 for the big bearing rear. They also have the correct 2.38 bearing offset.
