Hi! I have a 1957 Oldsmobile 98 4 door in Lima, PERU. Bad thing is that its missing the main parts of its original engine: shortblock and heads..... however the transmission is there as well as the lower trans shield, valve convers, intake and 4 barrel carb, rocker arms and shafts, starter, alternator, damper, etc..... I have a lead on another Olds Engine, however I doubt it is a 57 engine. I was wondering which year Oldsmobile engines would look basically the same on the outside appereances as a 57 Rocket and would mate to my tranmission just fine so I could install it on my 57 and not look like I built a Frankenstein???? Id like to have an engine inside the engine compartment, that even though it is not a 371 it still would look like one, or at least super close (unless its an oldsmobile expert looking at it). Thanks! D
Wider because the deck on the block is taller, otherwise aesthetically very similar? (Heads, exhaust, accerrsories, timing chain, etc the same) but a little taller block and a wider intake? Like saying....383 vs. a 440 on a mopar application? Thanks. D
Yes, because of taller deck height on the later engines. 59-64 are the tallest and therefore only slightly wider than your 57-58. I believe all 49-56 are the same lowest deck height. They all are basically similar external appearance, not sure if there are differences in the engine mounts? X2 pm or email goatroper Tony, he is early Olds expert.
