Two greatly overlooked resources for Pontiac enthusiasts are the "Service Craftsman News" and the "Service Bulletins". The Service Bulletins were sent to the dealers as information (sales, service, whatever) became available. Then, at some regular interval, the more useful information to the general public was printed in the "Service Craftsman News". I tried to obtain authority to reprint my set several years ago, but "The General" thought I was independently wealthy, so the project was never done. Jon.
Regarding the first Pontiac V8, the early 55's had small passages that led from about 1/2 way up on on each intake guide out to the atmosphere. The idea could have been that under high vacuum conditions air would have been drawn into the guide & it would reduce oil being "sucked" down the guide into the combustion chamber. It wasn't successful & dealers were furnished with plugs to drive into the passages. Greg
The comment about the dual quad engine posted in the post 2 posts above by Joe is a very politically correct statement meaning the dealers, who did not send their mechanics to carburetor school, hated them (something new). Easier to say they don't work than admit ones own inability to make them work. The factory engineers loved them. But it has been written over and over how Mr. Knudson wanted to lose the "Silver Streak" old mans image, thus went with the tripower like the hotrodders of the day. There weren't a lot of the engines, so have had experience with fewer of these than some other dual quads, but have probably set up maybe a dozen or so with zero issues. Jon
I just bought this... anyone have any ideas? It was bought at Rose Bowl Stadium Swap Meet in California around 1972.
I realize it fits a Pontiac, but it reminds me of the Bosch setup used on Oldsmobile 350s in the mid 1970s Cadillac Sevilles.
