1958 chevrolet impala 2 door hardtop

I have a 58 chevy impala 2 door hardtop, my question is what is the chrome strip that runs along the inside of the door glass do? It also runs down he chrome strip on the back of the glass, only 58 chevy impala hardtop has them, the convertible does not have have them, let me know if anyone out there knows, or you can e-mail me at ltremayne@sbcglobal.net, thanks, Lloyd

Im assuming its there to look pretty...... sounds like some sort of garnish moulding.
