Does anyone know the with ( Drum face-to-face ) of a 9-inch rear end out of a 1958 Ford station wagon.
Is the regular p***enger car from the same year, the same width? The difference between the two is the wagon has the big bearings?
Yes, 57-59 p***enger and station wagon are the same width. The p***enger car rears have the standard wheel bearing; the staion wagon has the large wheel bearing. Also, all the 57-59 that I have had over the years(6) were 28 spline axles.
What he sez. I have several of them and they are all 57 1/4 drum face to drum face. The have the large bearings 3.160 and 1//2 inch holes for the backing plates. They also have a smooth back and fit under 32-40 Fords perfectly. (a little wide for a 32)
No, model and years under discussion above are all 5 x 4.5" wheel bolt circle. F100/F150 and earlier Broncos used a 9" rear with the 5 x 5.5" bolt circle. but width may/will vary from above.
Station wagon, Courier and Ranchero rear shoes are 2" wide v.s. p***/car 1 3/4", and wheel cylinders are larger, 15/16" v.s 7/8".
Thanks for the information. A friend has it and wants to sell it . At 58-1/2 inches wide its the same width as the Granada 8-inch I have in my 48 Ford.
Good. I have two, one of which will be going under the 34 Victoria. Any idea on rim width and backspace will work with this rear and fenders?
I believe the "57"-"59" wagon , ranchero and sedan delivery rearends are narrower than the p***enger car rearend. It's not much, but it is narrower. I had this argument/discussion with a boneyard owner decades ago(1973-74) until he went to the Hollander interchange manual. That day all the planets where aligned or something. I found a "59" wagon 6cyl. overdrive. It had a 3:55 gear and got it all for 35 bucks. The good old days.
