per a google search. 1958 Chevrolet Yeoman The Yeoman was a Station Wagon produced by Chevrolet for only one model year. Built to appeal to the outdoorsy crowd, the Yeoman featured vinyl upholstery, rubber floor mats, and a linoleum platform to make the interior a breeze to wash. A Yeoman could be purchased as either a 2-door or 4-door with the capacity to fit 6 passengers.
Somebody has crafted a '58 Impala wagon....3 & 3 taillights, impala chrome bits and trim, roof vent, etc. Very good job and quite deceiving...
My first car was a '58 Yeoman 2-door wagon. Bought it for $60 in 1974 from the lunch lady in my college Student Union.
Maybe this is also true of a few 58's ... Supposedly the military ordered a few (very few) 59 2-door wagons with Impala trim and badging and were provided as personal transportation for naval commandeers .... same one keeps coming up on e-bay and the seller seems to provide legit documentation.
That makes absolutely no sense to me, whether it's a '58 or a '59. I haven't seen the eBay ad and its documentation, but if you're talking about a commander as a rank, he ain't high enough on the food chain to get a staff car. A Navy Commander is equal to a Lt. Colonel. Now, if you're talking about a commander as a position such as the Captain of a ship or some naval unit, then he cud have a staff car. That staff car wud come with a low ranking enlisted man as the duty driver. A 2dr staff car makes no sense as the Captain wud be sitting in the back seat where he cud review important papers or have discussions with his Executive Officer while being transported. He is not going to be crawling in and out of the backseat of a 2dr wagon. Besides, in '59 there was a 4dr wagon in the Impala series. I suspect that eBay wagon with the Impala trim was an easy, custom touch that someone put on there as do many owners of '59 El Caminos.
The car was featured in America Rodder or one of its sister publications, in bare metal. They Did a nice job but it looked disproportionate to me cause they didnt use the not as tall Impala windshield, but kept the stock wagon one and it really looked too tall to me anyways.
Firstoff there are alot of things in the military that dont make since, second so if a captain is higher then a commandeer then go with that ... me being army my only exposure to navy was thinking that they were soley established as dance partners for the marines. I am just saying that claim is out there ... even if doesnt make sense.
That looks like a '58 two-door Yoeman with Impala badges. Does anyone know how interchangeable '57 thru '59 Chevrolet wagon parts are? Specifically, I found a roof rack for a '59 wagon that I would like to put on a '58 Yoeman.
