  1. Funny, I was just thinking about this build a few days ago too. What's up?

Glad you guys brought this thread up - I missed it.

  4. Job changes, marriage, a daughter, and a house renovation have kept me from frequenting my favorite forums like the HAMB. I've received a few e-mails recently about the Magnette so I figured I'd stop by to post an update. I've been driving the car a lot, and I did go ahead with the supercharger project. I could not find a usable Judson in my budget, so I bought the Moss Motors M45 blower and made some changes to it didn't look too "new" in there.

Here is the car in action on a grocery run:

The blower project. I had to modify a kit for an MGA, so this involved fabricating a mechanical linkage, different radiator hoses, and many different brackets. It has dramatically boosted the power, but I'm already thinking about phase II with a ported head and a header.

Don't know if I'd gone the supercharger route. A MGA twin-cam motor would bolt right in there.

Hey there 251 Garage, thanks for resurrecting this thread - it's the first time I've seen it today and have read from start to here.
I understand the complainers worrying that an MG Magnette isn't a HAMB-specific car, but too bad for them, the work you have done on it is better than many others have posted - for sure.
You and your dad make a great team with all your machining skills - the work on fitting the T5 to the front part of the old MG gearbox is eye-opening lateral thinking, and I love the veneer work in restoring the interior.
Brilliant, many thanks for sharing with us.
    Keep providing updates please.
    Cheers.

    Great looking job there.:D

  9. Twin-Cam MGA engines do fit, but they start at $10K for a rebuildable core. I like the blower, especially at a 5th of the cost!

I think you would get a warmer reception at britishv8.com. A few years ago I built a 350 powered TD and posted here. Most of the comments were negative even though many were hot rodded to v8 powered back in the fifties. I guess the car has to be domestic. Oh well that being said check out the link to a 427 powered Magnette in the project forum.

I am on the HAMB every day and I can't believe that I never took a look at this thread before, the worksmanship is fantatstic! I am on the final stages of restoring a 1959 Nash Metropolitan that had rust issues similar to your project so I can appreciate what you went through.
