Hey my fellow fridge heads!Finaly got my '60 home and running,so I thought I'd post some pics.I had visions of a subframe, but it rides amazingly well! I had visions of a Buick 430/AT, but it runs soo damn good w/the glass floatbowl and everything! Shifts like cuttin butter! Now what the hell do I do?Can't paint it,my only bitch is the steering and needs to be about 8" lower. LOVE IT! Maybe I cuold use the 223", a five speed, the front axle, and the ol' 9inch for a track T project...
Great little truck. Looks like the harsh winters haven't taken a big toll on the sheet metal at all. Nice little project. PACO
With the price of gas going up everyday those 223's can turn out over 20 mpg if tuned right. There is nothing better than having an all original F100. Nice ride......
Ya ... who wouldn't. Although these trucks were step kids to the 62-66 trucks they are coming on strong & have a dedicated following. I kick myself now for selling HAMB member Whitieford my unibody. I too am ALWAYS in seach of a reasonably price (ha) '57. Good luck. PACO
I Have a super bitchin 64 that wears most of its original paint, and shines like new, but am in love with the 57! If anybody wants info on my 64 hit me up! I am always up for a good trade..... Lol
Yep, drove up today after seeing it on Craigslist last night. It's a little rough, but I'm pumped about it. I live in wheeling, wv and grew up across the river in OH.
Thanks, your (I beleive it was yours,) yellow one was very motivational in my choice to get it.20mpg sounds better than my Baja Bug!Course it has a 1835 'race' motor and a fat weber. And I drive it like I stole it.Anyway Im totally excited about it.I put a Mustang tank in the bed and have to stretch the fuel gauge wire but I'll have to do that.Any secrets about tuning? looks pretty basic, like they should.
Bill, it's kinda like if I find great, but not on Big hunt to get one. My 64 is so freaking nice that I would hate to part with it, and my31 is taking up all my extra cash so you know the drill. I would trade my 64 for one if I could even though I would be hard pressed to find another as nice.
This is my first post here and this 58 f100 is the reason. She has 29,000 miles on her, and has not been registered since 1978. The couple that owned her ( bought her new) made one last trip together to NYC in 1977 in it. They then parked it under a shed. The couple passed away in the early 80's. A relative told me that up until about 2000-2004 he would go over jump it off and drive it around the block to the gas station put air in the tubed tires and a little gas in then drive it back once a month or so. In 2000-2004 some neighborhood kids hot wired it and drove it into something damaging the grille. It was towed back and then the kids came back and broke out the windows. It sat from then on until the property was condemned and the f100 was towed to be crushed. I was lucky enough to intercept it. I plan on making it a daily driver for my wife who commutes 100 miles a day. I will go the crown victoria front end and early cv rear. I have a 94 f150 five speed and a line on the 3.9l isuzu bread truck diesel. I plan on going the veggy oil route. We did this to a friends silverado and it went well. I dont know what they y block and tranny are worth but they will be sold off as will the 1988 s10 longbed I had picked up for a f1 conversion that never materialized. The f100 has some rust in the door step pockets and in the round areas under the tail lights. I have a cnc mill, several lathes, migand tig welders and a plasma cutter so I should be set on tooling.
Cool. I hope you'll do a build thread on the SVO diesel and the whole works. If they run you off here because you're not burning dinosaurs, please post it on the HAMB's companion forum Dogfight Magazine. -Dave
Ive got a rebuilt 5.0 ho but the thought of using just 10 gallons of diesel a month instead of 100 gallons of gas is appealing. In the long run I just cant afford it any more. Hopefully only a few will be offended....
vz58 your truck is way cool , to bad the poster children for birthcontrol damaged it , but its a nice project , fix it up nice
Is the rear set up like the 64's? I need to lower mine, but it seams that with getting it lower it will either hit the bed floor or the frame.. I would love to find a good way of lowering it with out hacking the bed floor or notching the frame, as the truck is in super solid shape and would hate to cut it... love the stance on your 57, I love the 57's and hope to find one sometime...
