Planning to get rid of the original steering box. I know there are basically 2 solutions and i'm seeking feedback from anyone who has done this. I'm curious if the Speedway kit mounting the box on top of the frame is any better than the CPP style that mounts the box in the original steering box location. Is either a better solution or does it come down to personal preference? Anyone with any feedback willing to, feel free to share.
Correct me if my memory is wrong. Didn't the Pontiac powered GMC trucks come with factory power steering? If so, wouldn't that be a nutz and bolt upgrade?
Can't comment specifically, but I'd be going with factory parts if I could. (i.e.Not CPP or Speedway factory)
The one that bolts in the factory spot is going to take up a bit more room, so if you are already tight there like with a V8 swap and exhaust clearance then you may run into trouble. The one that bolts to the front outside of frame will give you more engine clearance. I've read good things about both in the different truck forums and of course a couple bad like in any forums. I've been looking at this one if I do it https://www.performanceonline.com/1...yigBcB37WCf4yJoQEyDXCU5Rpzaf7xp8aAkHOEALw_wcB .
the older design that bolts to the outside of the frame and uses a really short drag link, is not what you want. hint: if you want reviews of products, post links to the products, so we know what you're asking about.
Neither is cross steer, both use a drag link to the left spindle. The link added above by swade41 looks like the speedway kit, but I could be wrong. The stock steering box clears my ram horns exhaust so I'm guessing a frame mounted upgrade would too. Not sure how to post a product link.
