they did make a ***y looking factory 8 lug aluminum about 1997 or so.....or a change to axles and springs....the front axle might have to come from a n early Chevy 108 van.....some one will chime in....

It's a heavy duty truck. If you want a light duty truck, get a half ton. You probably want a short bed 1/2 ton, too.

The 3/4 tons are good trucks, but not really hot rod material. The frame is thicker, springs are heavy duty, axle and spindles and steering stuff it bigger. The rear axle is geared for slow driving.

I had a 57 3800 for a few years, it was a good truck, I used it as a truck. I had ugly chrome "modular" wheels on it, they were all I could find cheap that would fit. The later stock 8 lug Chevy wheels have the wrong offset and hit the tie rod. There are some 8 lug older aluminum wheels that look good and fit, but they are usually 16.5 and tires for them are a pain. The modern aluminum OEM wheels like mentioned above are just too new looking IMO.

    Half ton trucks are easier

there were "camper special" wheels which were plain but a little wider or deep dishee....Honest Charley used to have them....for stock 8 lug wide wheels try Southwest Wheel over on John Carpenter Frwy by the old Texas Stadium......have you looked on the Chevy truck forums ????

We used later 1 ton steel wheels and they worked well, changed the rear for better gearing and made a fun truck that was usable ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1422628266.301551.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1422628380.054598.jpg

I have seen 8-lug slot mags and think to they could look good on it, but as mentioned are typically 16.5's. Just a thought...
