Thinking of removing my leaky power steering on my 59 el camino and buying a new center link and pitman arm and going to manual steering. In the winter I may go with a newer style steering box. Wondered how tough manual steering on a full size chev is

  2. I tried manual on my 31. After my first cruisin and backing into a spot I went to power.Going down the road manual is ok. U turns or just manuvering in a gas station was hard .
    But each to his own.

Manual is just fine on the X-frame cars.

  4. I drove a Pontiac with manual steer for years. No big deal except I was picky on parallel parking with it.

Never cared for manual in vintage tubs. My buddy has a '62 Tempest w/ manual- too many turns lock-to-lock. I have PS in my B-59, upgraded box is 3.3 turns- pretty good.

I've got manual steering on my 59 olds 4 door flattop and it really isn't that bad, but don't think you're gonna steering with a finger or two!!

  7. Got manual in my 59 sedan delivery .... no problem with stock steering wheel ... even considering going with a 15" wheel.
