Hope this don't jinx the deal... I pick it up Sunday. Rebuilt a couple of years ago... Sounded good, drove strong. I have a couple of V8 Bell housings in the garage to make the existing 3 speed work.

I don't think that that 250 is in my future... The deal was he has a 250 that is rebuilt attached to a 700r4. I drove the pickup, it sounded good. The tranny cooler that was in the radiator had a leak, and water/ antifreeze got into the transmission. The ATF was thin and pink.

I was going to go in on the deal with a buddy that wanted the 700r4 - the problem with the leak killed the deal for him.

Oh well. Looks like I fix the issues with the 235 and down the road I go!
    - Rebuild the carb.
    - Replace the distributer.
    - Fix the manifold leaks.

I love your truck. I to have a 58 that will someday get built. I was wondering if you knew what your new steering wheel came out of?

    Thanks for your help.

    ARG!

I blew it and the paint went all wacko. Nothing some sanding and re-painting won't fix. I wiped it down with glass cleaner between coats, and I shouldn't have!

Ain't that a bitch... Did the cleaner crack the wheel or was that there?

The cracks were there, only really noticeable when you get really close!... it just made the last coat of paint crackle. It was going on really nice, too.

Needs a sand down and repaint, but you get the idea:

Big step backwards yesterday. I have a 4 cylinder '59 Apache.

I'm planning on driving my pickup to Santa Maria, so I took it over to a buddy's shop to get the carb rebuilt (I know Turd, I said I would do it myself, but I have not had the time to take my daily off the road, and I need it to be reliable for that 6 hour drive)...

I started it and after hearing it run for less than a minute he says "you are missing".

5 and 6 are not firing. Blown head gasket or problems with the valves.

Lucky for me he has a freshly re-built head on the shelf. Valve job, hardened seats, everything. He will have the head off in the morning and I'll know what I need to do.

    Oh well.

3 valves had no seats and the gasket has failed. The replacement head is on. Also, the manifold was too warped to surface, he would have had to take too much off to make it flat. He had another one of those on the shelf, too.

Today, he will be rebuilding the carb, checking the distributer (I took him one if mine has problems) and giving the brakes an adjustment.

I'll have it back this afternoon!

Yeah, Turd, it's an easy fix for me - all I do is open my wallet and hand over the plastic. Kind of a drag that I spent that Sunday 2 weeks ago replacing the manifold gasket!

.... I had been planning on swapping a 292 into my '59. Now that I'll have so much invested in the 235, I'll be keeping it.

Maybe a hop up down the road!

I have a wheel like this too. Picked it up in an antique mall over a year ago. I had been thinking of a thin rimmed wheel and came across it and I think it will look good. Not a real hot rod / racer looking wheel but different and cool nonetheless.

    Joe,

What happened to the seats? Was it a lack of Lead in the gas deal? And is it something that can photographed? It would be interesting to see....

Thankfully the Dude had all the stuff!
