Howdy. This is my first post on my first attempt to use technology to network with car folks. Feel free to let me know if I am in the wrong place or doing it all wrong. I have a 59 GMC 100 with a 270 cid 6 cylinder engine. It has an air pump or fan bolted to the valve cover. It looks like a minnie electric turbo. The input comes from the valve cover and the output goes to the oil bath air cleaner. Is this some sort of crank case ventilation? Searched the internet but found no answers. Terry
Can you post a picture? I’v never seen what you are describing and yes you have landed in the right place
Welcome, sound like some aftermarket add-on. Crankcase ventilation was used earlier, but PCV stuff started in the early 60s. Also searched and didn't see anything as described. Pics would help. a couple overview and closeups of any tags or details missed in the overview. Here's a listing for a restored truck with engine pics https://www.rrclassiccars.com/1959-gmc-100-fleetside/ Here's a stocker out of as big truck (fire engine) https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/gmc-270-inline-six.1075476/ and one without air cleaner running. BTW, tradition asks that you post an intro in New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!
Is it something like the green item in this pic? I found this on the web on a couple posts about a GMC and also military application. Did this maybe replace the draft tube so one didn't leave a trail of oil? If it's hooked into the air cleaner maybe it reclaimed the air out of the valve cover and the excess oil drained into this.
That’s it ^^^^^^ I got a few of the rocker are covers with the hole for the 1/2” elbow fitting. That one doesn’t have the proper sealed ignition but seems to have most everything else including the fuel filter before the pump.
That makes sense. Part of a fjording kit to keep water out of the engine. I did see one of those "duck" amphibious vehicles with one of these engines while searching around.
