Does anyone know whether you can modify a late poly/la crank to suit an early model poly/2 stage auto? I would like to fit a syroker crank to my 1959 polyflite/318 combo

There's a difference in length of the crank tail that throws off the bolting up to the pre '62 ****** & causes a similar (opposit) problem using the 392 ****** adaptor with a post '61 ******. ***uming you guys had the bell change @ the same time as the US. You need a post '61 engine for the 360/stroker set up.

    Hey,

Weren't the LA motors externally balanced? Might be an issue with a pree '68 motor?

He didn't ask for a stroker crank, he wants a syroker crank. Big difference. Don't you guys know anything?

As George says...ain't gunna work.....or something like that.

The post-62 cranks are what you might call 'normal' and have a much shorter projection off the face of the block than does the pre-62 crank that has nuts on the backside of the flange; the converter mounts directly to the crank via studs. In 1962 the v-8 got the flexplate and revised mounting system.
The idea of building an adapter for this swap has been kicked around for years but no one has yet offered a blank check to cover the expenses which, I am quite sure, will be near $1k. Oh. no guarantee on whether or not the design time will actually yield a workable part...:(

If a stroker crank is really needed then a welded unit will be the answer but then there will be practical limits on just how big you can go.

The real answer is...get a 62-66 & go for it! Not much sence in building up a stroker & then using the out of date OEM ******.

Will a post 62 trans or bellhousing bolt up to the 59 block? Could you use a cut down 360 crankshaft if you changed to the 360 flex plate, torque converter and transmission?

I only ask because the question comes from Down Under and they may not be able to get engines etc. as easily as we can.

They have "A" Polys down there. Not w/o a 392 Hemi ****** adaptor. With the adaptor he can put a modern ****** behind his '59, but, as 73RR & I said, that nixes the LA stroker crank. He could only do the weld & grind the rod throws to get a bit longer stroke. The Aussies started using the 360 crank in 318s, A & LA, because Chrysler Australia made lots of them but few 340s & nothing bigger. The cut down 360 crank & .030 over bumps the 318 up to 349 where it can compete with the 351 Cleveland (Australia's "Belly ****on" engine). They now are importing a lot of used V8s from the States, 360s, big blocks, ect.
