I am looking to replace my 1959 Ranchero headliner. The original one was a stiff cardboard material that was in two pieces separated across the cab by a steel bow. All of the replacement headliners seem to be fabric. What gives? Were 1959 Ranchero headliners cardboard or fabric? Where can I get a cardboard headliner like my original? Thanks, Mike
On my 60 olds the headliner was cardboard too. I used white aluminum soffit material that you buy in rolls from a building supply. Then I used spray adhesive and added 1/8 inch foam, then more spray adhesive and a fabric remnant I found at the sewing store. Worked great. My seperator bows were plastic and competely dryrot, so I found some real narrow SS carpet strips, (5/8' wide) It looked great.
Hi papajohn, That is a good idea. If I can't find a cardboard headliner, I might try aluminum like you explain. Seems like that would work for me too. Thanks, Mike
No it was "fiber board" Yep you got it. If its still good (solid) have an upholstery guy cover it. That's what we used to do. If it isn't solid but still mosttly there a good upholstery guy can use it for a pattern and cover what he cuts out.
My headliner was broken and I unfortunately threw it away thinking I would just buy another one. So, I don't have a pattern. I see that folks that sell cloth headliners mention they are "conversion" headliners that replace the cardboard, I mean fiber board, design.
