Hi guys Got a bit of a problem with a 63 c10 ive recently bought, when i bought the truck i was told it had a 1.5" sectioned front cross member, Great i thought but now ive got the truck i see theres clearance issues with the front tie rods. The seller has put the front clip on the orginal mounts which basically means it hasn't lowered the truck but has lowered the engine mounts etc etc and left me with a 1.5 gap between the chassis and the top of the cross member, i need this truck on the road sharpish and moving the steering box etc, my main question is do you think its safe to pack out the gap from the cross member to the chassis with a block of steel with bolts through?.
I'm taking it as the crossmember has been lowered 1.5" from the bottom of the frame, not sure why though
Basically 1.5" of the height of the cross member has been cut out and re welded, basically this should raise the front suspension 1.5", only problem when the raise the cross member it fowls the tie rods, so rather than that he has just put it back where it was leaving a 1.5" gap between the cross member and the chassis, its bolted up on the outer chassis but now i either need to sort the steering problem or pack out the cross member so it meets he chassis, filling the 1.5" gap
