That's going to be a tough one, buddy... but somewhere in one of the magazines, they showed how to chop a 59/60 GM hardtop car (I think they chopped a 59 Buick) and I think the 2-door sedan should be similar... This article was like in a Rod & Custom or something like that. Travis
Get the windshield and A pillar trim, (maybe the pillars too,) from a hardtop. They are already 2" shorter. and the back gl***, cuzit's flatter already, hell get the whole roof and doors and make a HT out of it! I'd like to see a '60 Chevy with a '67 Chevy fastback roof on it like that '61 style idea in R & C last month, (that a HAMBer did by the way)
some japanese pulled off a radical chop on a 4 door sedan, car was orange if i remember right. crazy lookin, seemed to be very well done and not look stupid.
I was thinking of using a roof and gl*** from a 60 caddy. The way that things look with the sedan top as it is now , is that if I cut the top of the gl*** 2-3 inches on the windshield the roof should cant forward and match up. The rear i could not even cut just alow to fall forward? Any pics of the cars you guys are talking about?
Some cat from Brazil did a really weird one with modern non wrap around apillars and some giant grille teeth. The car can be sen on the kustom korner modeling site .I havent looked at it in a while.
i asked the same about a year ago. was tossing around the idea of chopping my 60 catalin 2dr post. someone posted pics of a *****in green impala that was cut down. think it was out of texas. if you come across any info, keep me in the loop. a haircut is still a future option.
You can checkout the one built in Japan at - http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~borders/old%20html/main.html (let the page play) They had a front screen specially made. The rear was from some modern Jap car.
my god the 63 impala following the 60 has gone a little too far.... i can appreciate the work, but DAMN!
Couple of stills of the 60 - http://www.deucecoupe.net/modules/tinycontent/6th_custom_hill/img/149.jpg http://www.deucecoupe.net/modules/tinycontent/5th_custom_hill/img/124.jpg
Thanks-good pics J'Chris, would you post a side view of your car[Busted Knuckles]?Id like to take a look.........
I met the owner of this 59 sedan with a 2" chop. It's hardly even noticeable unless you'e 5 feet away from it. He should have went 4".
This is my buddy gregs 60. I don't remember how much it is chopped. The windshield is not cut, just recessed into the cowl.
anybody know how I can save the pics of the orange car off that Japanese website? I'm trying to collect pics of that in case I decided to cut my 4 door.
I never liked the roof on my 2 dr Biscayne. It just looks too tall w/ the post. I really dont want a radical chop but I would like to lean the post foward. Give it a subtle look, almost factory. Dont know how possible that is. But Im sure if you can do a radical chop it can be done. Plowboy--Any more pics, that is one hell of a '60!!!
Elky , is that out on rt 40? looks like he filled in the openings on the hood as well, nice touch. do you happen to have any way of getting in touch with the guy?
yeah, it's near 40 just off the 695 Beltway. The guy lives near Wilmington DE, though i prolly won't see him around till next spring/summer. Sorry i don't know how to contact him, but you might be able to get a hold of him through the Karb Kings website. http://www.karbkings.com/ Just email them and ask if they have any contact info for the dude with the 59 belair that is chopped 2". I don't think he's a Karb King member but i have seen him displaying his car with theirs at the Hotrod Hoedown. The fins are cool. he removed the trim and welded on extentions to make them look longer and more pointed.
plowboy do you have any more shots of that 60 like the front and back sides? Thats a pretty killer chop.
Wow thanks for all of the help guys. Here I thought I was thinking of doing something no one had tried!!!((, wanting to be original and not copy what everyone else does or did. That white one looks like a 57 chevy windshield? Again thanks and Happy Holidays ,
You need the march 2001 R&D it has the chop on a 59 buick hard top. The article is how to chop a buble top. I talked to Frank Palmer about my 59 sedan he made it sound easy, but then hes like the yoda of customizing. Mine get totaled so I never did it.Hope this helps.
