Projects 1960 f100 short bed custom cab w/big window

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56 ford custom, May 23, 2011.

  1. 56, I went out and looked at my parts and I can't tell looking at them since the engine is apart. It sort of looks like the mount might come off with out pulling the balancer, but I am not certain.

The engine mount for the truck has a slot that the crank snout sits in and is held in with four timing covers bolts on the one I have. That being said, I have no idea about the engine mount that is on the engine in the pic.

  2. fauj, Thanks. I need to figure this out asap. I need to get this motor together and into my truck.

  3. I would just take the bolts out and see if I could wiggle the mount out. No harm in trying.

  4. I will have to atleast try that then. But if I want to run the power steering on my 56 sedan I will have to get the balancer off that motor and swap it off with the one off the old motor. Is there only one right way of installing it?

  5. It is keyed so that it will only go on the one way. Just be sure not to use a hammer to remove or install the balancer. Use a puller to remove it and you can use the balancer bolt to install, just be sure that it is oriented correctly on the crank before you start wrenching it on so that you don't damage the crank or the balancer.

  19. Well I finished painting the hood hinges today. They came out nice and shiney. I used rustoleum on the hinges and I hope it stand up and lasts. I used krylon gloss white for the inside of the tail lights I hope it withstands the heat of the bulb and doesnt flake.

  20. Did you buy new sockets for your tail lights? I need to do this as well.

  21. No I havent bought new ones yet, Im contemplating on rewirring the whole truck. I dont know where I can but the sockets with the pig tails and rubber boot that goes around the end of the tail light housing.

  23. So the new y block I got i am pretty sure its out of a 56 f100, im not sure If I want to run this car and manifold or the one of my old motor.

This is the old one with the weird chole on the side. The hose that is on the choke got to the base of the intake. Then the vaccum advance goes to the base of the carb.

Or should I use the Rebuilt holley and painted intake from my old 292?

This carb has a manual pull choke

  24. I will be pulling the motor and.trans soon so I can paint the frame and firewall. What type of paint should I use on the firewall? Also what should I use to clean it?

  25. Any y block or 57-60 f100 guyd want to chime in on this?

If you want to keep it low buck and use something that is durable, go to Tractor Supply Co. You can pick up some tractor enamle for a good price. 30 bucks for a gallon..and about 10 for a pint. The stuff works great and they have several colors to choose from.

  27. Kage, there isnt one near me.

in my eyes, paint is all about prep. Get your hands on a good degreaser, scuf it up and spray. You can probably get away with Duplicolor or Rustoleum if you want to stay on the cheaper side. Just make sure its clean!

  29. I just want the fire wall nice and clean. What have you guys used? Pics?
