I have a 1960 f100 with a 223 inline 6 and I want to swap it to a v8. its my first time so I'm looking for alil help in the right direction. Anyone done this before? Will I need to change up the suspension? Thanks for your help
Nope suspension is fine, if you are putting a Y block in it should just about be a bolt in, if you go late model contact look up transdapt or advance adapters (google it) either one should have engine swap pieces. Good luck let us know if you get stumped.
Ford did, in 1960. depending on what is available I the way of parts in your area, should be a bolt-in.
About 30 years ago I put a 400M/C6 combo in my '59 F100. Made my own front mounts and used a narrowed transmission crossmember out of the donor car, an early '70's Ford wagon if I remember. Used the donor exhaust manifolds and hooked up the C6 to the stock '59 column shifter. You can do the whole job in a few weekends. Worked out so well, I drove it for the next 20-25 years.
You want to stay with a Ford V8 or you want to swap to a non Ford V8?? I just did a BBC swap to my 60 F100,used a transdapt kit. Worked Great! You dont need to do suspension work per say but make sure your tie rod ends, king pins, steering box are not sloppy, and as old as the truck is; sometimes you have broken leaves in the spring packs. Disc brakes or at the very least a dual chamber master cyl for extra added safety will be in order IMHO. (If you go the disc brake conversion route keep in mind the stock "innie" wheels will not work) .
