Model 206E. 86 bhp, 2,553 cc OHV inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed automatic transmission, front coil spring suspension, rigid rear-axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs, and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 107 in.

    Rare British-built Ford

Detroit-based Ford Motor Company has been engaged in foreign markets almost from its inception. In fact, by 1911, production of Model As was even underway in Manchester, England, and indeed production of further models continued unabated for years thereafter. By 1951, the company introduced two modern designs for the British market: the four-cylinder Consul and the six-cylinder Zephyr, which were joined by the higher-powered Zodiac in 1954. Station wagons, saloons (sedans), drophead coupes, and a variety of models were offered, rounding out a remarkably diverse offering for buyers.

This particular British-built Ford is the highest-specification model available for the 1960 model year. For that year, while the Anglia, Prefect, ******, and Consul were all powered by the aforementioned four-cylinder engine, these Zodiacs had the more powerful six-cylinders and were most commonly exported into the North American market. It appears this was precisely such a car, as the dealer tag affixed to the rear indicates that it was delivered to Benoit Motors, Montréal.

It appears to have been restored some years ago in two-tone white and maroon. The car presents nicely with a number of interesting features, including a Smith's Fresh Air Heater, adjustable door armrests, automatic transmission, and more. From the exterior to the interior and engine bay, virtually every element presents correctly and of the period. With its elegant design and rare British origin, this car is an especially unusual sight on North American roads, particularly in light of the added scarcity of its Zodiac model designation and optional automatic gearbox. $7500 508 269 8878
